Neurologic Manifestations in Severely Ill Patients

43 views 0 04/19/2020 05/08/2020 Anne-Marie Lavigne

  1. 36.4% of patients had neurological symptoms, most frequently headache, dizziness and impaired consciousness.
  2. About 5% of patients reported either hypogeusia or hyposmia.
  3. Severely ill patients were more likely to develop acute cerebrovascular diseases, impaired consciousness and skeletal muscle injury.

This data comes from a non-peer reviewed retrospective case series conducted in three hospitals of Wuhan. It included 214 patients (88 severe and 126 non-severe) confirmed SARS-CoV-2 positive by RT-PCR from throat swab specimens. Neurological symptoms were reviewed by neurologists and organized into categories: central nervous system, peripheral nervous system and muscle injury.
