A First Presumptive Case Report of Acute Necrotizing Hemorrhagic Encephalopathy

  1. Acute necrotizing encephalopathy (ANE) is a rare complication of influenza and other viral infections and has been related to intracranial cytokine storms.
  2. A female airline worker in her late fifties is the first reported case of acute necrotizing hemorrhagic encephalopathy associated with SARS-CoV-2.
  3. Hemorrhagic bithalamic lesions were demonstrated by CT and MRI imagery.
  4. However, detection of SARS-CoV-2 in the CSF could not be performed.
