Case of Postpartum Cutaneous Lesions

26 views 0 05/07/2020 Bianca Rakheja

  1. A case of diffuse cutaneous lesions occurred on day 10 postpartum in a 37-year-old woman with no history of dermatological or internal disorders or allergies. Delivery was uncomplicated.

  2. Lesions appeared 3 days after the onset of general symptoms, and were described as:

    1. “Erythematous maculopapular lesions on the trunk, neck and face”

    2. “Nummular erythematous lesions with a peripheral slight white halo, assuming an urticaria-like feature in the lower limbs”

    3. No pruritus associated

  3. Acetaminophen was the only treatment prescribed.

  4. The lesions and other general symptoms improved after 8 days.

  5. The patient continued breastfeeding, and the newborn did not develop any symptoms.

This data comes from a case report about a 37-year-old Caucasian woman who was clinically diagnosed with COVID-19 based on contact with a laboratory confirmed asymptomatic case 5 days prior, and the onset of general symptoms on day 7 postpartum. She was asked to quarantine at home, and was prescribed only acetaminophen. Her husband showed the same general symptoms, but did not develop any cutaneous lesions. Images of the lesions are available in the article.
